Word of warning this is a long post with no pictures so grab a drink and maybe a snack!
For A we cheated at this slightly as we had Alone Time basically time without Emily. We went out for a meal with friends. We had a great night out with great company but a terrible meal. We went to an Italian restaurant in Chester 'Sergio's', we had only heard great reviews so everyone was looking forward to it.
We were going to be a few mins late so one of the lads from out group went over and told them will be 15 mins the person he spoke to said that's fine our table was going to be ready late so 20 mins would be good for them. So everyone finished their drinks in the bar across the road and we made our way over. When we walked in they thought we were a table of 4, there were 15 of us (bare in mind we had pre booked and paid a deposit so how could they not know this?!). They were rearranging tables while we all stood in the doorway.
When the table was finally ready at 7:35 (35mins after we had booked for!) we were walked over to our table and to most of our annoyance we were all squashed. They had set the reasturant for 2 other large parties as well as ours. We all had long tables and there wasn't quite enough room for the girls side of our table to move our chairs once the other party were in their seats!
Things got worse from here too!
When taking our drinks order they did half the table and then the lady went away. (Apparently we had decided that we would all order drinks at the bar, but we wouldn't find this out till the starters arrived) My husband got a drink but they hadn't asked me so I don't quite understand why we would be paying separately.
Our orders were taken then by a lovely young girl who was a great help to 2 of our group (1 of which was very drunk and she had great patience with him).
The starters came plus 2 extra that went back to the kitchen. Everybody enjoyed their starters. I had porkbelly ribs and they were beautiful. The meat was falling apart and super juicy.
We questioned about the drinks at this point and then my half of the table got our drinks order taken but my drink was left off! So I didn't get a drink till the mains as I was in the middle there was no way of me getting away from the table or gettin the waiters attention.
After our starters we waited till 9:45 for our mains to come! When the mains did arrive there was some confusion as we couldn't here the waiters as it was very loud. One girl got given a pasta (that no one had ordered) she started it thinking it didn't look like she imagined. Turns out it wasn't what she had ordered and they then brought the right one over but as she had started it they left it on the table. An elderly gentleman brought over a calzone that had a bowl of sauce on and stood up against one of the girls with his arm pit against her head holding the plate right in front of her eye line. He was very shaky and myself and her were worried it was going to go all over us! Thankfully one of our group got it off him. If he hadn't of had his armpit practically resting on her head I don't think this would of bothered us as much as it had.
The food was lovely (apart from my lasagna it was basically cheese with a bit of pasta and sauce I didn't notice any meat in it at all) but the service was atrocious! 2 hours we were waiting for our mains!
We didn't have time for desert as most of the group had to run to get trains home the last train is 10:30 and we were a good 10mins quick walk from the station!
Once everyone had paid the birthday boy went to pay for his and his girlfriends meals. So you would think 2 starters 2 mains. Nope they tried to charge him for an extra 3 starters and 2 mains! No one had put on our order that these items were not ours and had been sent back. This took a good 5-10 minutes to sort out. I wasn't sure if it was because a lot of our group were drunk they were trying to get more money out of us or what. Thankfully as I don't drink I was able to correct the man and we got it sorted.
I had driven so when we said bye to everyone, hubby and I popped into Sainsburys and bought some cup cakes to finish the night off. After a nice easy drive home we saw off the inlaws who were baby sitting and went to give Emily a kiss good night. We curled up on the sofa put on a film and enjoyed some peace and quiet.
Overall if it wasn't for a couple of hours drinks before the meal I doubt we would have enjoyed it at all but it was so nice to catch up with everyone it was just the meal that put a bit of a downer on the night. We won't be eating there again, at least not in such a big group or unless we have less than 3.5 hours till we need to leave!
