ADHD appointment and finding out I have an anxiety disorder what next?

I recently went to an appointment where I was expecting to have a chat about my ADHD and get prescribed medication but it took a heck of a heck of a turn.

Way back in Feb 2023 I had an appointment with the doctor (that I had to book 6 weeks earlier πŸ™ƒ) and I left so excited I was about to get my ADHD under some sort of control and start to find things easier. I was given a massive pile of form to fill in and told I’d likely be seen in around 8 weeks as I already had a history. But it all fucked up and my forms were in the Drs tray for 19weeks and 6 days! In that time I had reluctantly made several phone calls at the 16 week mark and even went in twice before the notes were found! By week 28 I wrote an email to try get my appointment expedited and I eventually got a reply to say I was in the system and will be seen at the earliest availability.

The

1 year 1 month and 3 weeks after my Drs visit I got the appointment so by his logic it was 51 weeks late.

Arrived at the office right on time and was asked to take a seat. Within 5 minutes a lovely nurse asked me to come through I asked if my husband was ok to come along and she said he can but usually we like first appointments alone but it’s not a problem.

We started with the normal questions about what I thought was going on and what were my main concerns but the lady kept probing at different things I had said and ended up going deeper into my mind than I imagined. It felt like she had pulled back some brambles and found a secret garden that had been hidden away buried deep under a heap of other plants masking the walls.

So turns out the ADHD issues aren’t necessarily the biggest concern and that’s being pushed to the side for a little while, while we get a plan in place for what she described as a ‘deep rooted anxiety disorder’ and ‘catastrophic thinking’. I will have another appointment in April and apparently I will see a psychiatrist and psychologist and look at medication and find some strategies to understand and cope with everything. Charlie (husband who I took along for support as I was nervous going on my own πŸ™ˆ hey look anxiety) and I both came away feeling shocked we hadn’t realised how deep of an issue it was. I felt so confused and realising that so much of what has been my normal is so NOT normal but we have just found ways around my anxieties to make everything function. I knew I had social anxiety, being on my own outside and phone call anxiety and the more I thought about what makes me anxious I knew about other things but never really clicked that it wasn’t normal.

So now I feel anxious waiting for the next appointment as I don’t know exactly when it will be or who it will be with at this point. I thought I knew me but I am now questioning so much.

Also wish I had pushed more last year to get the appointments sorted but it seems clearer why I hadn’t. Im still tempted to put in a formal complaint about the lack of care and failure to process my notes but I’m already too nervous to return to the doctors so have been putting off things I know I should get checked out.

I’m so nervous about all that is to come and I guess that’s normal as the lady said that I have to be ready for it because if I’m not ready they can’t truly help me but just give me some coping mechanisms. I really do want to feel more normal and struggle less. I really hope that I can get to the point of doing the school run without worry and panic as apparently that isn’t what everyone else is going through while waiting for their children at home time.

Smart watch for children

Let’s talk smart watches but for little ones. Not old enough for a phone or Apple/android Watch what else is out there? Well Emily and Alfie both have an Xplora XGO3 one. Both received them for their birthday and have a giffgaff SIM card. I put £10 credit on, on their birthday’s and haven’t had to top up yet as they can only ring a few people and they know it’s only when needed.

It’s pretty basic but they feel grown up and for less than £140 it’s a good starting point.

Benefits

• GPS & Safety Zones I love that I can track them from my phone (fab for school trips, playing at friends houses and just incase when we go busy places). - Xplora XGO 3 uses multiple services to show the device location. An option is available to setup Safety Zones around key locations such as home and school

• Only people I add to the contacts using the app can call or they call them.

• It doesn’t have text messages but I can message them both through the app and they can message me. Messages are free just uses data.

• It can take pictures

• It counts steps

• They all seem to love playing with the calculator and going through the ring tones.

• You can change the watch face through a choice of about 5 I think.

Screen shots showing Home Screen, chat feature, call and where they are.

This is how we message
They can type or do voice notes.
It gives me notifications if it’s turned on or off and can creat safe zone

Tracking is pretty accurate ‘within 15 meters’ often goes down to within 5. But when driving it will fluctuate

So this what the safe zone looks like, if they were to leave that area I get a notification

My children are really happy with their watches for now. I would look at updating Emily’s in the next year as she is about to turn 9 and by time she goes to high school I would be looking at getting her a phone.

Would you be interested in a smart watch before moving on to a phone?

Dydd Santes Dwynwen

St Dwynwen is the Welsh patron saint of lovers, which makes her the Welsh equivalent of St Valentine. We celebrate St Dwynwens on the 25th January.

This year the girls made a cake for us to share. They did a great job don't you think?

I love that we found such a easy hack to make cake mix vegan by just mixing with fizzy drink (plain soda water using our Sodastream* is our favourite way to do this) making this perfect for Veganuary and making it allergen friendly for our cmpa and egg allergy children!

New year same old me

Happy new year, not a new year new me type of post but more a realistic saying it as it is post.

I look at these photos over the last 6 years and in each one I HATED something about me but in all of them there was something I liked. I think I will always wish I could change something. The white dress, I was the happiest I have been with my body since I was pregnant with Emily and the lowest weight I had been since I was 18. I hate that when I am pregnant and I have HG I lose weight and I feel so happy with how my body looks; Thinner extremities and small round baby bump belly. The blue dress I was still in the post HG body. It was squishier but still smaller than I was before (and I am now). I was 35/36 weeks in white dress and 5 weeks postpartum in blue.

Why do we put pressure on ourselves to look a certain way? I LOVED my pink hair. At home, in pictures, with my safe people it felt good BUT I hated how some people looked at me with it and how self conscious I felt at the school gates even though I had loads of people telling me that they loved it.

I want to do it again but I’m not in the ‘I don’t care’, ‘let them’, ‘doing it for me’ era that so many people seem to be into atm.

I am and probably will always be in a ‘need to hide’, ‘don’t fit in’, ‘no one likes me’ era. One day I might say fuck it but for now I will cower and deal with the self hatred. So here’s to 2024 where nothing will change. I have tried to change it since I was 13 and yet it never works, it brings with it eating disorders, self harm, self loathing, anxiety and all the other lovely stuff

These little ladies graduated Clwb

Amy and her besties graduated Clwb (playgroup/play school from 2 till full time school) ready for full days of school in September. Amy started just after she turned 2 before she started school and now does one day a week wrap around before school as she is in the afternoons.
Unfortunately, they are getting split into two classes which none of us mums are happy about. They have made such a beautiful friendship. I will cherish the memories and stories they have shared with us this last year of school. Amy loves these girls so much and they have been an absolute pillar in getting her to school. She will often get upset and protest going to school. The teacher will allow one of the girls to come to the door to hold Amy's hand going in and it has made such s difference in how Amy goes to school. I couldn't be more thankful for her little friendship group.

The pictures are from Amy's 4th Birthday party. She had pretty pinks, purples and butterflies as the theme and it was all carried out my our lovely friend Kim from Sailboards, balloons, welcome sign, and bouncy castle by the lovely @white.cloud.events

40 before 40!

Hello my lovely's,

A fair few years ago I posted a 30 before 30 and I didn't do very well completing it. Considering I'm 35 this year I thought I would take a look back and I have decided I am going to repurpose it and make it a 40 before 40.

As I do them I will cross them off and if I remember I will date them.

Hairburst sale and discount code! MRSJONES for discount

Hairburst has got such great sale on at the moment. They have their BOGOF sales a couple of times a year but for the first time, you can mix and match the items and the cheapest products for free!

I am currently obsessed with Hairbursts multi-active scalp serum. It's made such a difference to my hair. Reducing thinning hair patches and overall my hair feels thicker and much healthier.

I have been taking hairburst gummy vitamins for a while and I think they have genuinely helped improve the health of my hair but all the extra benefits of using a whole routine of exfoliating scalp scrub, shampoo, conditioner, and hair mask have changed my hair so much!

My hair is growing so quickly, no split ends, no breaking. just thicker, stronger longer hair.

I now recommend hairburst to everyone. I have a discount code which gets you 20% off usually but during sales, you get 10% off meaning when you make use of the BOGOF offer and my code you're saving up to 60% ! huge!

20% off Hairburst discount code is MRSJONES  <== link is an affiliate link.

Keeping Active

The weather is getting colder but it's important that we keep the little ones active rather than sat in front of a screen. My three love to be running around and jumping all over the place and with the dark evenings, we are bringing the fun indoors. Thanks to Character toys and their Stay Active range of toys, the whole family can enjoy fun ways to keep moving even if it is Winter, in fact, all year round. Play them indoors or wrap up and get outside and enjoy the fresh air and some fun movement with the family.

We have been trying out their Moonshoes and we think they are great! They are the perfect indoor and outdoor toy. They are like mini trampolines for your feet. They can be a little tricky at first but once you get your balance they are soooo much fun! They are held together with super strong rubber bands and you can adjust the bands by using more or less depending on weight! They take only a few minutes to put together quick and easily and no tools or batteries are required!

They are not only fun but are great for helping develop vital skills like balance and coordination. Emily loves these and they are great for her hypermobility and practicing keeping her core strong! Whether staying in or getting out learning new skills helps to improve social skills, self-esteem, and confidence.

The Moonshoes can be purchased from Smyths for £34.99 also available from, Argos, Amazon, and other retailers

These would make a great Christmas present. keeping children active and helping reduce the time they spend in front of devices will help children's mental and physical well-being.

Fun in the sun on Llanbedrog beach

We’ve come camping for a week and it’s started off the start of the hottest week in the UK.

So I’m currently sitting on such a beautiful, calm beach watching my husband and children having fun with their grandparents in the crystal clear water makes me so happy. But at the same time sad. I don’t feel comfortable enough to put on the swimming costume and go in with them. So on the hottest day in this country (possibly since records began) 33° right now I’m wearing my baggy t shirt and shorts sitting on the beach. I also left my sunglasses in the car but felt unworthy of the trip back to get them even though  my husband offered. So I will sit feeling sorry for myself and guilty for being the size I am watching the fun.

I know size shouldn’t define me but to me I made myself this size I should feel ashamed of myself.

Big plans, no mojo and Hairburst discount code!

Click to shop all Hairburst Hairburst discount code incase that’s all your here for MRSJONES gets you 20% off

I started this year with such big plans of what I wanted to do on this blog and how I wanted to have weekly posts or at least regular content going up! I’ve managed to keep my Instagram going for well pretty much 2 years with only having breaks because of Instagram deciding to give me bans! Why? Why would they give people bans for doing what they want you to do on a social media site sharing/ liking/ commenting. It just doesn’t make sense. Anyway back to the blog. After spending hours on what was a well worded travel post of things to do in north wales and it all disappearing I completely lost my mojo.

I really want to get more up on here tho so I’m going to start doing more. Even if it’s a picture and few words here and there I want to be present.

Moving on from that here’s something that will be popping up on the blog every now and then.

Hairburst

Hairburst contacted me recently asking if I would like to work with them. It took me all of a few milliseconds to say yes.

I’ve used the shampoo and conditioner for a few years and highly rate them. They smell amazing and I usually buy them when I find them on offer.  I couldn’t wait to work with them. They have sent me a selection of goodies. They have even given me a discount code to share MRSJONES gets you 20% off Hairburst Click here to shop hairburst

I will make a separate post on how it’s going, my progress using all the new products etc

Day in the life with the Terrible Twos - funny story

To say this week has been challenging would be an understatement.

I’ve not had a great week. It started off ok. Monday wasn’t bad, Monday night wasn’t great but it was ok.

Tuesday morning, well let’s just say the girls woke up on the wrong side of the bed and were both arguing and screaming at each other before 6:30am. By 7 both had cried multiple times. But all was not lost! I had all 3 children dressed and eating breakfast by 7:15. I made protein brownies and had everything ready to go to school. What went wrong after that I don’t know 🀷🏼‍♀️ but it all went tits up with arguments from all 3, mess everywhere, shouting, screaming and a very quick walk to school and we strolled through the gates at 9am (they go in at 8:45).

Amy’s now losing her sh!t going into clwb because she’s tired and grumpy. I leave her shouting bye bye Amy I love you, have fun. As she’s literally snorting she’s crying that hard. But I repeat it’s for her own good, she loves it when she’s there.

I got home and decided I’m going to do an hour on the bike and get some work done at the same time. Smashed it! I did 75 mins on the bike saved my work, then I carried on sitting there working until I had to run out the door to go get Amy.

This is where I could finish and say she had a lovely time and was in a happy mood but I would be lying. She had a good time but she was most certainly NOT in a good mood. Nope she was in the worst mood known to man!

Terrible twos, over tired, over stimulated, doesn’t know what’s going on so I’m going to scream like a banshee kind of mood. I managed to get my dear crotch goblin to sleep πŸ₯³ yay peace! She will wake up feeling great, my sweet smiling princess will be back πŸŽ‰ so now mummy can get on with her work she left open before she went out.

Oh no, oh no, no, no, no, the sleep only gave it more energy, more power to take mummy down!!

The school run was ok. Not the best but the big kids had a good day. Then we got home 😬 and Amy unleashed her wrath on them both! It was a constant sea of calls for me. I also discovered all that work I did…all 4.5/5 hours worth was gone, vanished out of existence, so my mood has gone from tired mummy, to stressed tired mummy, to absolutely devastated, stressed tired mummy, to mummy doesn’t want to carry on she wants to quit everything and move to an island and change her name.

But no time for mummy to dwell on her bad day, the tears have started from the hangry beasts ‘I’m hungry’, quickly mummy thinks feed the demons. Oh no Alfie opened Amy’s crisps but she wanted Emily to do it! We should of known, our telepathic abilities must be broken as now we have hula hoops flying around the kitchen. Screams from Amy, look of horror from Alfie and Emily’s face resembles that of someone who’s just seen a ufo. Wtf is going on?!

Bed time comes along, 7pm ok she had a nap but she’s still showing many many signs of tiredness. It shouldn’t be too hard.

Oh

my

god.

After changing position and laying in her cot, on my bed, on a pillow on the floor, in the dockatot on the floor, on the landing, she shrieks and cries and cries some more, now her ear hurts.

Quick get the calpol, she wants it but then as I get the syringe in her mouth, she blows it all back out. We try again but nope she won’t have it. So a warm face cloth on her ear it is. She finally starts to fall asleep. Oh how sweet she looks. Three attempts to put her in her bed fail. The last straw is approaching where mummys about to break but she went down and she finally stayed in her cot until 5am!

I was still heart broken that I lost almost 5 hours of work but it will get re done. When I do not know but it will eventually.

How can my sweet little girl go from an angelic little lady to a demonic beast? Thankfully she is really good 98% of the time. These bad days are here to test us and show us how much we can put up with πŸ™ˆ

Here is a picture from our little outing to the park on Monday. When she was super excited to show off her bunchies for the first time.

New year same goals! High protein, low fat diet, lots of exercise!

Hello and Happy New year! I've found it hard to start this post, first one of the year, sets the tone for what's to come etc. But I'm just going to jump in. Last year I started to up my protein and my exercise and I soon started to enjoy it. I have an exercise bike that I go on around 5 days a week and I try to do 30 km in an hour, after this I will have a protein shake or a protein bar. I have also found a love for protein pancakes and will often have these for breakfast or a snack. I've been using the protein works pancakes, shakes and bars. I have even tried some supplements.

I can't lie and say I am doing amazing but I am trying, I am trying hard but when I miss a session it's not the end of the world. Having a 'cheat' meal or even a day doesn't discredit the effort from the rest of the week.

I have been working with The Protein Works and have been loving their products.

My top 5 products are

The cookies and cream loaded legends

Loaded pancakes banana choc chip

Wondershake mint choc brownie

Overnight oats summer berries

Diet protein pancakes

I have a discount code you can use MRSJONES

School children bringing home germs

So far this month it been nothing but illnesses in our house. With two children in full time school you come to except germs to be coming home regularly but poor Amy has had the worst of it. She started with tonsillitis in October which lasted two weeks. The bigger children had horrendous coughs, high temperatures and felt generally miserable. We took them for covid tests and thankfully both negative. Then Amy started with the cough and temperatures. And the poor thing is now suffering with an ear infection. Pretty sure Alfie has an ear infection too!

Hope your having a better November than us πŸ™ˆ
I don\"t really have any nice November photos to share other than advert ones from my Instagram

The Best Pumpkin Picking Patch

Happy October my lovelies πŸ¦‡

We went pumpkin picking at @delamere_farm_shop and omg I was so impressed with the choices. We usually go to Malpas farm but I find we spend a fortune on overpriced (sorry but that's my personal opinion) activities and the choice of pumpkins has always been ok but not wowed me.

Delamere doesn’t have the extras malpas does but to be honest I was actually really pleased about that. It was sort of a free day out with the children. There are so many free photo opportunities, so many different types of pumpkins to choose from. The prices of the pumpkins were definitely cheaper. We had a whole pile of different pumpkins and only cost £20. We spent an hour in the field choosing as Emily had to get the perfect one. Alfie definitely has ideas of grandeur he had to keep changing his pumpkin for bigger and better. Little does he know mummy and daddy changed his massive one for a slightly smaller one ( weighed almost as much as Amy at 8kgs). It was still double the size of the others that we got πŸ™ˆ

Do your children always want the biggest like Alfie?
Perfect one like Emily or the first one like Amy?

Alfie and discovering his multiple allergies including milk, eggs and soya

Hello my lovely’s

I thought I would start back with a post about Alfie’s allergies and the misery and heartache that comes with an undiagnosed allergy baby.

When I first had Alfie he was AMAZING that first two weeks was bliss. He took to breastfeeding amazingly (after having tongue tie cut), it was nothing like when I fed Emily. He slept so well. So much so that we had to go back up to the hospital as they were worried about how much he was sleeping (they then decided he was just a sleepy baby). After that honeymoon period he just cried 24/7. He wouldn’t be as bad when I was sat on the birth ball bouncing cuddling him upright to music. But any other time well, it was kind of hell. It took 12 weeks to start getting Alfie’s allergies under control this helped but not completely. Little did we know how many were going to pop up when we started weening! Everyday when I was putting Emily down for a nap at 11am I would put him in the Moses basket with white noise on the telly so I could make it really loud. I would then have the iPad on noise for Emily and I would cry to Emily I’m sorry, I was sorry that he came in and disturbed our time, I’m sorry I couldn’t play like we used to, I’m sorry this noisy little thing never stopped crying. I loved him but I also didn’t want to be around him. I really didn’t want to ‘put him on anyone’ either.

I had always gone to langue and play with Emily on a Thursday morning. Emily loved it and called it Hayley’s school (the leader of the groups name and it was in a school hall). After Alfie was born it was harder to take her but we always went Hayley and Emma would help me with Alfie so I could get time back with Emily. Other days my mum and dad would have him for the morning and I remember one morning when I knew my dad was coming to pick us up, I just broke down crying, Hayley knew straight away what it was and I think a lot of people saw it coming. My health visitor wasn't around as she was off sick so I literally had no medical person who would listen to me about how bad he was to be around. Their was a lady who we saw for his weight and eventually it wasn't going up as it should and we got referred to the hospital. But that wasn’t the end of it. We had an urgent referral that only took 3 days! The relief that we were going to see doctors who were going to help us was amazing.

Our appointment couldn’t of gone better. The doctor took down all of the symptoms Alfie was expecting, green explosive mucusy (sometimes bloody) poo, constant screaming, poor weight gain. He measured him and checked him over. Said plan of action would be a week lacto free milk. Then if that didn’t help we would try dairy free for a few weeks. We were going to do blood tests to see if there was anything else that could be causing him pain or problems.

We were told to give it 2 days and they would get back to us with the plan in place and where to go to pick up the prescription milk.

We left the appointment ecstatic so happy and excited of the proposed plan. On the third day I still hadn’t received a phone call so I called them.

‘Oh hi Mrs Jones, we have decided to leave Alfie for a little while to see how he goes. Call us back if he drops below the bottom centile and we will have another look’.

Shattered, all that positivity, the optimism that we were getting answers gone. I felt like a lorry had just hit me. There was no way I was laying back and doing nothing. I had already started to cut out dairy incase that was the issue ready for stage two of our plan. And I was going to stick to it. I wasn’t just going to stick to it for the few weeks that they had said I knew I needed to do something to help him, to make him stop crying and just be a happy baby.

I will do more posts about going dairy free and weaning an allergy baby but for now I’ll end with some photos of Alfie as a baby and one of him now ☺️

I actually posted this picture on Facebook with the caption through all his screaming and crying we do get some breaks and see his beautiful smile.
